We came out to Wyoming to achieve a goal for Emerson Bishop to get a cow elk and have the best time ever while doing it. Wyoming Disabled Hunters was really our only way to make this possible. Emerson having a muscle disease and not being able to walk or stand makes this a very difficult for him to be able to achieve this.
We weren’t really sure how this would all work out. We got to Wyoming and had a great place to stay for base camp. Nice hotel, clean and good people and it was very accessible for Emerson to help us out. Emerson is an avid hunter but having a muscle disease brings extra difficulties. Everything was fantastic with all the extra help. We were able to get Emerson sighted-in with his gun the day prior and the nice blind the companion hunters built out of straw bales made it really easy to get him out in the elements. The van Terry drove us in was great for accessibility and it made it super easy to get Emerson around. Also, the ability to use a track chair helps us too. Without all of these things this hunt would be gravely difficult for him to do. Also, the manpower really helped us out. It is really difficult for Emerson without manpower to hunt too. Having the capability to not to have to bring all this equipment with us also makes it much easier on us to help him. We don’t fly by airplane with him anywhere, so we carry everything by our van and we don’t have a lot of room.
Cody Wyoming is a very accessible city which makes it nice to access everything especially in a wheelchair. Joanne Denney and her husband did a fantastic job in getting us our elk back fast and boy, does it taste so good. There is also plenty to entertain in Cody while waiting for the elk to process – your food and museums are so fun and all the people are very accommodating. We shot a gatling-gun which Emerson thoroughly enjoyed.
All in all, this was a great trip and the chance of a lifetime for Emerson – the opportunity was so fun. The organization really runs smooth because Terry has it so organized and really helps out and cares about all in the group. Thanks again… The Bishops Emerson, Bruce and Aimee.
