Merlyn is a cornerstone of WDH and has been involved in the organization since the very beginning. Merlyn has a generous heart, and in 1995, he took a hunter from Physically Challenged Bowhunters of America (PCBA) to hunt on his North Fork property, and that started the ball rolling. After doing research, planning, making many lists, and rounding up 50-some volunteers, a blind was built on Merlyn’s property in the summer of 2000. When the idea of starting an
organization for disabled hunters was born in 2008, Merlyn, along with his wife Virginia and some others, wrote the by-laws, rounded up folks interested in helping to be board members, did all the necessary paperwork to become a nonprofit and Wyoming Disabled Hunters was born. Merlyn was a board member from then until the end of 2022, when he decided to retire from the board. As an honorary member, Merlyn stays involved with WDH, sharing his knowledge, wisdom, and experience to help keep WDH on track and functioning smoothly. Besides that, he is a great PR person because he knows just about everyone in the Powell-Cody area and loves talking with people!
